Landing gear bay masks for a 1:72 model of the Grumman TBF/TBM Avenger carrier-borne torpedo bomber, cut for the Hasegawa and Hobby 2000 kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Grumman Avenger was an American carrier-borne torpedo bomber of the Second World War, a sturdy machine with a crew of three, a roomy bomb bay in the fuselage and a powered gun turret on its back. The wings folded along the fuselage for stowage on deck. Aircraft built by Grumman carried the TBF designation, those from licensed production the TBM; both forms remain in parallel use among modelers.
The masks cover the openings of the landing gear bays so that no overspray reaches them while you spray the fuselage and the wings. The inside of the bay keeps the shade you gave it and the edge of the opening stays crisp. The cut follows the shapes of the bays on the 1:72 Avenger kits from Hasegawa and Hobby 2000.
Spray the inside of the bays first and let it dry thoroughly. Then degrease the surface around the opening, seat the mask and press the edges down with a blunt toothpick so that paint cannot creep underneath. Spray the outer surfaces thinly and in several passes. Remove the mask shortly after spraying, while the coat has not fully hardened, pulling it back over itself at a sharp angle. The bays of the Avenger are clearly visible on the model, so their inner shade and shading are worth the effort too.
For modelers of American carrier aircraft in 1:72 scale who want clean bays without lengthy masking with tape. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
