Tropical Leaves is a set of laser-cut paper leaves intended for building tropical vegetation in 1:72 scale. It is not a finished tree or a bush that you would simply place on a base, but a starting material. The leaves are cut from thin paper, so once glued on they really do have a thin edge, which cannot be imitated with molded plastic foliage. The manufacturer is the Czech brand Model Scene, which has long specialized in diorama vegetation.
The basis is a skeleton of branches. Most often it is made from twisted copper wire, from sea foam or from dried rootlets and plant stems. The leaves are separated from the sheet in smaller groups and painted before being glued on, ideally from both sides with a spray or an airbrush, because once they are glued you cannot reach the underside any more. A proven procedure is to put thin PVA glue on the twigs, sprinkle the leaves on from above and tap off the excess; anyone who wants exact control of the canopy glues the groups on with tweezers and a drop of super glue. Mix the color from several shades of green and add a hint of yellow or brown, otherwise the growth looks flat. Let the paper dry out completely before gluing, as damp paper curls.
It is a modeling material, not a finished product. Wire, glue, paints and a base are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
