Eduard 1:72 U-2A is a full photo-etched set for a model of the high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale. Against the smaller pre-painted sets it is a more extensive and more demanding accessory.

A photo-etched set in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Eduard, intended for detailing a plastic model of the U-2A high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft. It is not a kit: what you buy is a set of thin metal parts that replace or supplement parts of a model you already have. The code series places this item among the full photo-etched sets, that is a step above the smaller pre-painted sets, which confine themselves to the cockpit and the restraint belts.
The U-2A was the first operational version of a single-engine reconnaissance aircraft with an unusually slender wing of great span, close in structure to a glider. The aircraft was built for long flights at great altitude, which is matched by its light structure, minimal landing gear and extensive equipment bays in the fuselage. It is exactly those thin surfaces and subtle details that are the main reason photo-etch pays off in the small 1:72 scale.
In 1:72 scale the photo-etched parts are very small; work on a light surface, with a magnifier and magnetic tweezers, or the first breath of air will carry a part away. Cut the part off with a scalpel and file the remains of the tab flat with a fine file. Make the bends in a bending tool in one movement. It is glued with cyanoacrylate in micro-doses or, on larger areas, with two-part epoxy resin, which gives you time to settle the part. Bare photo-etched parts have to be degreased first and sprayed with a primer, otherwise paint will not hold on them.
