A set of decals from the SPACE range by the Czech manufacturer Eduard for a model of the American Lockheed U-2C high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not a finished model, but an accessory that adds detail to a completed kit. The decals go onto the plastic parts and take the place of small-scale painting.
The Lockheed U-2 is a single-engine reconnaissance aircraft with an unusually slender wing of great span, which gives it flying qualities close to those of a glider. Compared with the first production batches, the U-2C received a more powerful engine, which raised both its ceiling and its range. The landing gear layout is characteristic too, with the wheels in tandem on the fuselage centerline and with auxiliary outriggers under the wings that the aircraft drops after take-off. The nickname Dragon Lady has stayed with the type to this day.
The base under an element must be smooth, clean and degreased. Spray the part in the base shade and let it cure thoroughly. Moisten only the backing paper with a sponge and a drop of detergent, lift the element off with tweezers and fix it with PVA glue (white glue); the manufacturer does not recommend super glue. Do not use a decal softener, as it attacks the printed resin and spoils the element. Once dry, go over the area with matte or satin varnish so that the edge of the carrier layer blends into its surroundings. On the dark single-color finish that this type wears, every glossy patch shows clearly, so it pays to varnish the whole area at once, not just around the decal.
This is an accessory to a model, not a kit. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package.
