About product

The British Tugmaster airfield tow tractor 1:72 - a Brengun kit

A kit of airfield ground equipment in 1:72 scale from the Czech maker Brengun. It is not a model of an aircraft, but a small tractor of the Tugmaster type, the kind that moved aircraft between stands, lifts and the runway on British airfields and ship decks. The model is rewarding precisely in dioramas: only a vehicle that is pulling something gives a scene its scale and a story. The material make-up of the package, the number of parts and the extent of the markings are given on the packaging.

The real subject

An airfield tow tractor is a low heavy vehicle with a short wheelbase, a high axle weight and a low-set cab, so that it fits under the fuselage and wings of parked aircraft. British tractors of this type served with ground units as well as on the decks of aircraft carriers, where a low build and maneuverability matter even more than ashore. Towing was handled with a drawbar or a tow bar attached to the nose gear of an aircraft, and on some tasks the vehicles were also used to move carts with munitions and auxiliary equipment. A durable, simply shaped body with no needless styling features is characteristic.

Building and painting tips

Choose the glue according to the material of the parts - thin modeling cement on plastic, cyanoacrylate on castings and photo-etched parts. The vehicle is small, so it pays to paint the chassis and the wheels before the body covers them. Airfield equipment tends to be noticeably worn by service: a dark wash in the shadows and seams, fine chipping on the edges of the bumper and the step surfaces and a hint of dust from below come in useful. It is exactly the contrast of a tired vehicle against a clean aircraft that makes a good impression in a diorama. If you complete the model with a tow bar to the nose gear of an aircraft, check the height of the attachment before cementing, so that the scene works out in the end.

Who the model is for

  • Builders of airfield dioramas in 1:72 scale
  • Those interested in British ground and deck servicing equipment
  • Modelers who want to add activity on the apron to their aircraft
  • Collectors of small vehicles in aircraft scale

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a model of a ground airfield tow tractor, used as an accessory to aircraft and in dioramas.

The material make-up is given on the packaging. Go by the instructions in the package and choose the glue according to the material.

The model is in 1:72 scale, so it belongs with aircraft of the same scale. Next to models in 1:48 it would look markedly undersized.

The contents of the package are given on the packaging. Do not assume accessories beyond the vehicle itself in advance.
