1:72 Union Infantry in Attack 3

Union Infantry in Attack 3, figures 1:72 from Strelets

The third continuation of the line aimed at Union infantry in attack, 1:72 scale, the manufacturer Strelets. The figures are modeled moving forward, so the set serves above all to widen an already laid-out combat scene with a further wave of advancing soldiers. The castings are of soft plastic of a uniform color and are supplied unpainted and unassembled.

The real subject

An infantry attack during the American Civil War took place in close ranks, which advanced against fire and only at short range went over to a faster pace. The formation meanwhile broke up quickly into irregular clusters, which is good news for a diorama: the scene does not have to be geometrically aligned and on the contrary looks more convincing when the ranks break in it and individual characters lag behind.

Building and painting tips

With the third set of a line the main task is to avoid repetition. If you already have figures from the previous parts in the scene, place the new wave at a different depth and turn the figures slightly off the axis, so that the same poses do not meet side by side. Small differences in the shade of the trousers, varying degrees of dust on the boots and differently set pouches will do more for the impression than the finest detail on one figure. Technically, proceed as with the other sets of soft plastic: wash with detergent, prime, base layers in acrylic, a dark wash into the folds, a dry brush on the edges and matte clear at the end. Figures in movement stand on a small area, so glue them with cyanoacrylate to a base right at the start.
