About product

U.S. Light Tank M5A1 (Late) 1:72 (Mirage Hobby)

This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale captures the American M5A1 light tank in its late configuration. The model is released by the Polish brand Mirage Hobby. Besides the plastic parts the set contains vinyl tracks, a photo-etched fret and a decal sheet with the markings of a 3rd Armored Division vehicle from Normandy in July 1944; check the actual contents of the box against the instructions.

The real subject

The M5A1 belongs to the family of American Stuart light tanks. The late version brought changes to the turret and the equipment compared with the earlier configurations. Stuart tanks served with Allied units on a whole range of Second World War battlefields, where they carried out reconnaissance and support tasks. The particular markings refer to service in Normandy in 1944.

Building and painting tips

Finish the running gear and fit the vinyl tracks before closing the hull, and glue the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. We recommend a painted base, an airbrush and weathering with washes and pigments for the mud and dust effects that match Normandy. The turret details will stand out once they are picked out with a dry brush.

Who the model is for

  • for collectors of American armor in 1:72
  • for modelers interested in Stuart light tanks
  • for builders of dioramas of the fighting in Normandy
  • for more advanced modelers, because of the photo-etched parts

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
