A metal pitot tube in 1:72 scale in the form carried by American aircraft of the Second World War period. It replaces the coarser plastic part from the kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
A pitot tube is a ram-air pressure sensor from which the airspeed indicator on the panel reads the speed of flight. On the real machine it protrudes from the leading edge of the wing or from the side of the nose into the free airstream, so that the airflow around the airframe does not affect it. This item offers it in 1:72 scale in the form matching American aircraft of the Second World War period.
A kit usually handles this detail with a plastic spike, which in a small scale comes out thicker than it should be and is easily bent or snapped off during handling. A metal part, by contrast, is thin and stiff at the same time, so it will survive carrying the model and setting it in a display case. On a finished model the difference is visible from a distance, because it is one of the few features that sticks out into space.
Carefully cut the original plastic part off with a sharp blade and level the surface. Drill a hole at the mounting point to match the diameter of the part, so that it seats without play and at the correct angle. It is bonded with super glue; a minute amount is enough, as excess is shiny on metal. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, or the paint will not hold on the metal. Leave the fitting until the end of the build, so that the protruding part does not get in the way during sanding and spraying.
The kit, the glue and the paints are not included, unless stated otherwise.
