A mask set in 1:72 scale for building a model of the Wellington GR Mk.VIII bomber. The pre-cut self-adhesive pieces are applied before spraying.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Wellington is a British twin-engine bomber of the Second World War. It is built on a geodetic structure, that is on a lattice of thin sections crossing one another and carrying the fabric covering. The structure was flexible and survived even extensive damage, which earned the aircraft a good name with its crews. The version designated GR served with RAF Coastal Command on patrols over the sea and against submarines, so it flew long hours low over the water.
Masking pieces in 1:72 scale, precisely pre-cut to shape. They do away with measuring and cutting tape by eye, and the edge of the paintwork comes out sharp even on a curved frame. They are self-adhesive: the piece is laid on a dry surface and peeled off after spraying. The extent of the set, the position of the individual pieces and the kit the set is cut for are given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Apply the masks to a finished, clean and degreased surface, that is before spraying and not after the paint has dried. Lift them with tweezers or the tip of a blade and press the edges down firmly, otherwise paint will creep underneath. The glazing of the Wellington is busy and there are many frames, so set aside a quiet spell for the work and go piece by piece. Apply the paint in several thin coats; a heavy coat builds a ridge at the edge of the mask that stays visible after peeling. Take the mask off as soon as the paint has dried; after standing longer it holds more firmly and risks pulling the paintwork with it.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
