This is a figure of a wild boar in its own right in 1:72 scale from the production of the Offset Scale Models brand. It is not a model of an aircraft or a vehicle and it is not a kit — it is a diorama accessory that is added to an already built scene. In 1:72 scale a grown animal corresponds to only a few millimeters, so the figure serves above all as an element of scale and composition: it completes the edge of a wood, a field track, the bank of a watercourse or a neglected field by a ruined homestead.
The 1:72 scale is shared by aircraft work, small military equipment and layout modules in the common European sizes, so the figure can be used across themes. On a diorama it fills the role of a detail that tells the viewer the size of the surrounding scene at once and at the same time gives the scene life. It also works well as an element of calm that contrasts with equipment — that is exactly why animal figures are added to scenes.
Small figures are washed in lukewarm water with dish soap before painting and left to dry thoroughly; remove any mold parting lines or sprue remnants carefully with a sharp scalpel and polish them with fine abrasive paper. Make the base with a thin spray of primer, otherwise the small relief will vanish. Fur is modeled well with a dry brush: a base dark tone, lightened areas along the back and finally a spot of emphasis on the head and the ridge of the back. Dot the eyes with a needle or the tip of the finest brush. At the end a thin wash in the recesses and a matte clear coat help, so that the animal does not shine among the other elements of the scene. Glue the figure to a base with superglue and fill around the legs with grass or static growth, so that it does not hang above the terrain.
The figure is supplied unpainted. Paints, glue, a base and terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
