A photo-etched accessory from the Czech maker Hauler for 1:87 scale, that is for HO size. It is not a model of a machine but a set of vertical ladders fitted with a safety cage, of the kind mounted on silos, tanks, chimneys, cranes and process towers. The parts are etched from thin metal sheet and bent into their final shape.
The safety cage encloses the climber and prevents a fall backward; on fixed ladders running to a height it is a standard safety feature. On a diorama this detail therefore gives away an industrial setting at once: a storage tank, a pumping station, a waterworks or a hall with an outside way up to the roof. In HO it is among the elements that tell the eye a scene was made honestly and not just out of the box.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface, not with pliers, which will deform the sheet. Take the bends over a steel ruler or a photo-etch bender, so that the edge stays straight along its whole length. Cyanoacrylate glue holds the joints; on longer parts the gel version comes in useful, as it leaves time for aligning. Before painting, degrease the metal and apply a base intended for metal; without it the shade is easily rubbed off during handling.
