3GEN – WARGAME PAINT IT ALL BOX x36

AK interactive 3GEN Wargame Paint It All Box x36

A set of 36 paints from the AK 3rd Generation Acrylics line put together specifically for wargaming, for painting armies of figures and terrain alike. According to the manufacturer the shades were chosen by players and professional figure painters, so it is not a random selection but a working starter palette: it covers skin, metals, fabrics, wood, earth and the basic color families, enough to paint a whole army without buying individual bottles.

Mind the chemistry, and it is an important distinction: the 3rd Generation line is a water-thinnable ACRYLIC. That sets it fundamentally apart from the Real Colors line by the same manufacturer, which are lacquers with completely different chemistry and a different thinner. The paints in this set are therefore thinned with water or acrylic thinner, the brushes are washed in water and no aggressive solvents are needed. 3GEN is a heavily pigmented matte acrylic with very good coverage and adhesion; the manufacturer states that the formula is also suited to an airbrush, as it does not clog the nozzle and holds its coverage even when thinned further.

What the set contains

• 36 acrylic paints from the 3rd Generation line in dropper bottles.
• 2 synthetic brushes, one flat and one round.
• A washable non-slip silicone mat for the workbench, 300 x 200 mm.
• The set does not contain primer or clear coat; those have to be bought separately.

Why a set rather than bottles one at a time

• It is the quickest way to a usable range of shades, because the whole starter palette arrives at once.
• You do not have to put the palette together yourself. A beginner usually cannot guess which shades will actually be needed; here the selection is done and the shades are coordinated with each other.
• It also works as a gift for someone starting out in gaming or figure painting.

Painting tips

• Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, because the pigment settles in heavily pigmented acrylics and in metallic shades alike.
• Paint on a primed surface; acrylic holds substantially worse on bare plastic.
• For brushwork thin the paint with water or acrylic thinner, and thin it further for an airbrush as needed, while the coverage stays.
• Seal the finished figure with a protective (usually matte) clear coat so that it stands up to gaming.

Who the set is for

For beginning and advanced wargaming players and figure painters who want a complete working palette at once, and for modelers building terrain and dioramas. It is also a good choice for anyone moving over from another brand who wants to try 3rd Generation across the range rather than one bottle at a time.

This is not a kit; it is a set of paints and tools. Keep the paints out of the reach of children, ventilate the room while working and avoid contact with the eyes. Store the bottles tightly closed.
