A plaque 25 mm in size with the badge of the German Waffen-SS mountain division known as Nord. It is neither a kit nor a part of a model, but a diorama accessory for labeling a finished scene, the base of a single figure or a shelf in a display case. Modelers who go in for German units of the Second World War can thus mark a collection with a uniform row of labels. The 25 mm size is the smaller of the two sizes offered.
The division known as Nord was raised in 1941 and was the only German division of its type to spend most of the war far to the north. It was committed on the Finnish sector of the Eastern Front, in the area of Karelia and Lapland, where it fought in terrain with no continuous front line, in tundra, forest and through the long polar winter. After Finland left the war in 1944 it withdrew across the north of Norway, and in 1945 it was moved to the Western Front, where its remnants ended up in the fighting in Alsace.
For scenes from the wintry north a sparing treatment is called for: cool gray tones in the hollows keep the plaque close in color to a snow-covered base. Apply snow and winter effects only after the label is settled, so that material which is hard to clean out does not get into the relief. If you are covering the base with texture, leave a clear frame around the plaque, otherwise the edge of the badge will be lost.
