A plaque 25 mm in size with the badge of the German Waffen-SS cavalry division bearing the name Florian Geyer. It is not a model nor a part of one, but a diorama accessory. It is used as a label for a finished scene, for the base of a single figure or for a whole shelf in a display case. With cavalry subjects it suits vignettes with horses and carts especially well, where a label helps a visitor place the view.
The division came about in 1942 by the expansion of an older cavalry brigade and took its name from Florian Geyer, a knight of the time of the German Peasants' War in the sixteenth century. It was committed on the Eastern Front and in rear areas, and later on the Hungarian front. Its end is bound up with the siege of Budapest at the turn of 1944 and 1945, where it was broken up while encircled and in an attempt to break out practically ceased to exist. Even in the age of motorization cavalry formations kept a role in terrain where vehicles failed.
You will keep the fine relief legible by applying a thin base and bringing the design out with a dark highlight, wiping off the surplus at once. Leave the painting of the plaque for the moment when the scene is finished, so that the shade can be tuned to its surroundings. Settle it in a place where it does not clash with projecting elements of the diorama, that is as a rule in the middle of the front edge of the base.
