Clear Prop Models 1:144 Mitsubishi Ki-51 Sonia — a set of photo-etched parts sized for a pair of models of the Japanese light attack aircraft in the tiny 1:144 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
A photo-etched set from the Ukrainian company Clear Prop Models for detailing the Mitsubishi Ki-51 in 1:144 scale. The x 2 in the name means that the set allows for building two models at once, as is usual with kits in this scale. Thin etched sheet makes it possible to render details that are practically impossible to reproduce in injection-molded plastic at such a small scale.
The Ki-51, Allied code name Sonia, was a Japanese army light attack and reconnaissance aircraft. A rugged two-seat low-wing machine with fixed landing gear, it operated from the fighting in China across the whole Pacific, and thanks to its ability to work from short field strips it stayed in service to the end of the war.
Separate the parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface, bend them with smooth-jawed tweezers or a bending tool and glue them with a small amount of super glue applied on a pin. Degrease and prime the etch before painting so that the paint holds. In 1:144 scale it pays to work under a magnifier and with good light. If you are building only one model, keep the parts of the second half of the set — they will serve as spares should some small part fly off the tweezers during the build.
This is an add-on set — the aircraft models are not included in the package.
