A sizable injection-molded plastic kit of the British Supermarine Spitfire Mk.Vb fighter in the large 1:24 scale from the brand Trumpeter. The large scale means an impressive size of the finished model and rich detail: an elaborate engine, cockpit and landing gear. Besides plastic, the package also contains photo-etched parts, rubber tires and instrument film, so this is a more demanding multimedia kit for advanced modelers and collectors.
The Supermarine Spitfire was the most famous British fighter of the Second World War, with its characteristic elliptical wing. The Mk.V version was among the most widespread; it was powered by the more powerful Rolls-Royce Merlin 45 engine. The Mk.Vb version carried mixed armament of two 20 mm cannons and four 7.7 mm machine guns. Mk.V Spitfires fought on many fronts, from the defense of Britain through the Mediterranean to the Pacific, and became a symbol of British fighter aviation.
In the large scale the detailed engine and cockpit stand out, so it pays to paint and shade them carefully before the fuselage is closed. Glue the plastic with a thin cement for plastic and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Mask the extensive cockpit glazing. Lay on a primer and spray with an airbrush; the typical scheme is British day fighter camouflage. The large areas reward gradual shading, a fine panel wash and wear of the finish at the wing root and the cockpit.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
