An injection-molded plastic kit of the Fiat CR.42 biplane fighter aircraft in the large 1:32 scale from the Ukrainian manufacturer ICM. The designation LW in the name refers to machines operated by the Luftwaffe. The 1:32 scale allows a markedly finer breakdown of parts than smaller scales, and on a biplane that shows above all on the engine, the exhausts, the cockpit and the texture of the covering. The Fiat CR.42 Falco was an Italian single-seat biplane fighter aircraft with a Fiat A.74 radial engine and fixed landing gear. It entered service at the end of the 1930s and was one of the last biplane fighters in series production of its era. Besides the Italian units it was used by further European air forces; in the service of the Luftwaffe the machines found use above all in auxiliary and night roles against ground targets, where their low landing speed and their ability to operate from improvised strips paid off.
On a biplane the geometry decides: fit the upper wing only after carefully checking all the struts and let it cure in a jig or on a flat surface, so that it is not left twisted. Add the bracing wires with fine fishing line or wire only after painting. In this scale it pays to shade the engine and the exhausts: a base in a metallic shade, then the heat-tinted areas and finally a dry brush. Leave the fabric-covered surfaces flatter than the metal panels, as a difference in sheen sells the scale better than any weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
