Injection-molded plastic kit of the improved version of the American Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat carrier fighter in the large 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. Compared with the earlier F6F-3 it lacks the small side windows behind the cockpit and received a number of aerodynamic and performance changes. The large scale allows a detailed cockpit and engine section. Check the exact package contents and the number of marking options against the manufacturer's part number for this item.
The F6F-5 was the most numerously built and most developed variant of the Hellcat. It received a reworked engine cowling, strengthened tail surfaces, new ailerons and a water injection system for a short-term boost to the power of its Pratt and Whitney R-2800 engine. It bore the brunt of the fighting in the closing phase of the war in the Pacific, and thanks to its rugged structure and reliability it served for a number of years after the war as well, among other things with training and auxiliary units. The Hellcat is considered one of the most successful carrier fighters of the Second World War.
Paint and highlight the cockpit and the engine before you close the fuselage. Mask the clear glazing and glue the parts with thin cement for plastic. Spray the glossy dark blue Navy finish with an airbrush over a primer, apply the decals over a gloss coat and pick the panel lines out gently with a wash. On large kits Trumpeter often supplies rubber tires and small photo-etched parts to refine the detail; the tires can be replaced with resin ones for a more accurate shape.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
