This injection-molded plastic kit from the manufacturer Trumpeter represents the two-seat trainer version of the MiG-29 fighter, known by the NATO reporting name Fulcrum. The large 1:32 scale leaves room for detail in both cockpits, in the landing gear bays and in the massive air intakes. It is a classic plastic kit to be built and painted.
The MiG-29 is a twin-engine frontline fighter with a pair of vertical tail surfaces and a wide fuselage that together with the wing forms a lifting body. Power comes from two RD-33 engines. The UB version is the two-seat training variant with two cockpits in tandem under a single extended canopy. To fit the second station in, the nose radar had to go, so the trainers serve mainly for flying training and for keeping skills current rather than for full air combat. It entered service with the Soviet Air Force and later the Russian Air Force, as well as with a number of other users who operated the MiG-29.
Two cockpits in tandem mean twice as much work on the interior, so finish and paint it before closing the fuselage. It pays to mask the long canopy frame by frame, ideally with narrow tape. Sand the intakes and the ducts to the engines and unify them with the base color, so that the seams do not show up in the depths. Soviet and Russian schemes of gray shades come out well if you shade the surfaces panel by panel and bring out the lines with a thin wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
