A large injection-molded plastic model of the American fighter Republic P-47D Thunderbolt in razorback form (the tall dorsal fairing behind the cockpit) in the large 1:32 scale from Trumpeter (item number 02262). Compared to smaller scales, this large scale offers a notably higher part count and deeper detail — a finely rendered radial engine, an intricate cockpit interior, and a large surface area with fine paneling. The model is molded in injection plastic; we recommend checking the contents of add-on parts on the box.
The P-47 Thunderbolt was among the heaviest and most rugged single-seat fighters of the Second World War. It was powered by a turbocharged Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine, which gave it excellent high-altitude performance. The razorback fuselage was the earlier form, before the bubble canopy was introduced. Thunderbolts escorted Allied bombers over Germany, and thanks to their ruggedness and large payload capacity they also excelled at ground-attack missions.
A large model calls for a more patient build — we recommend thin liquid cement, test-fitting the main parts, and expect to fill and sand larger joints. Assemble and paint the detailed engine and cockpit interior before closing up the fuselage; the large wing and fuselage areas benefit from an airbrush, a quality primer, and panel highlighting with a wash effect. At the larger scale, careful decal work and natural-metal shades really stand out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
