USAAF pilots 1941 to 1945 in 1:32 scale from ICM - a plastic set of three figures to go with large models of American aircraft of the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of three injection-molded plastic figures in 1:32 scale from the Ukrainian maker ICM. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for one. The figures are meant to be placed beside a machine, next to a model on a stand or in a display case, and into a diorama on an airfield apron. In 1:32 scale a human figure stands about five and a half centimeters tall, so a great deal of detail shows on it and a figure changes the whole feel of a scene markedly.
The flying equipment of the US Army Air Forces changed gradually over the course of the war. Crews wore a combination of a flight jacket or coveralls, a life vest, a parachute harness and a leather helmet with goggles and an oxygen mask, and the equipment varied with the type of machine and with the altitude and the area they flew over. It is precisely these elements that make a figure beside a model a legible clue to time and technology: they show which era and which kind of service is meant.
Sand and fill the mold parting line on the sleeves and trouser legs before you start painting, because every trace shows on smooth leather surfaces. Assemble the figure but leave the head and hands separate until the face is finished. Build the skin up from a darker base toward lighter coats; leather parts come out best with a thin dark wash in the folds and a dry brush across the edges. Paint the straps of the harness and the vest last of all, as they are the thinnest elements and are easily smudged. Finally, unify the figure with a matte varnish, as gloss looks out of place on both textile and leather.
The figures are supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
