1:35 British HMS X-Craft Submarine is a plastic kit of the British X class midget submarine in 1:35 scale from the brand I Love Kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British X type midget submarine, that is, a very small submersible craft with a crew of a few men. The 1:35 scale is ideal for a craft this tiny: the finished model is not large, and yet the hatches, the periscope, the rudders, the propeller and the side mounting of the charges all stand out on it. At the same time it is one of the few ways of adding a vessel to a 1:35 collection of vehicles that matches the figures and the vehicles in scale.
The X type midget submarines were small British submersible craft of the Second World War with a crew of several men, meant for penetrating protected anchorages. In design they were a short pressure hull with a small tower and hatches, simple propulsion and no torpedo tubes; the charges were carried externally along the sides of the hull and laid under the target. The small size and the low silhouette were exactly the main means of concealment.
Thanks to the size of the craft the build is straightforward, which makes the surface all the more decisive: the hull joint has to disappear completely, because a smooth cylindrical shape reveals every unevenness. Sand gradually through several grits and polish the surface, and check any filler with a thin coat of primer. Bring a dark naval finish to life with a light lightening of the back and shading of the sides, or the model will merge into one uniform mass. A fine growth of weed and salt at the level of the waterline and mild corrosion around the hatches add a great deal to the look. The model works well on a simple stand and laid on the water surface of a diorama too, where only the tower stays above the water.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
