The Flakpanther with the Rheintochter I missile — a plastic kit of the projected German anti-aircraft system on the Panther chassis in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. A what-if machine that was never built.
Responsibility details are not available.
A plastic kit of a hypothetical German anti-aircraft weapon: the launcher of the guided missile Rheintochter I mounted on the chassis of the Panther tank, 1:35 scale, made by Trumpeter. It is what is known as a paper project — the vehicle in this form was never built in series.
Rheintochter was a German development program for an anti-aircraft guided missile at the end of the Second World War, which reached the stage of test launches but never combat use. Thinking about mobile launchers led to designs combining the missile with tank chassis; the pairing with the Panther remained a study on paper. The kit therefore belongs to the popular what-if category of equipment, which adds to the real late-war projects the one step that was never taken.
Build the chassis by the usual methods for armored vehicles — finish the running gear and the tracks before you set the superstructure in place. For a project like this there is no single correct scheme; a late-war dark yellow base with three-color camouflage suggests itself, and a missile in a contrasting finish gives the model an edge. Washes in the recessed joints and a light dust on the running gear lend credibility even to a machine that never rolled out.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
