An injection-molded plastic model of the German heavy field gun, the 15 cm heavy field howitzer s.FH 18, in 1:35 scale from Trumpeter. It is a new tooling; the package also contains a turned metal barrel and rubber tires for the wheels, which raise the realism.
The 15 cm s.FH 18 (schwere Feldhaubitze 18) was the standard German heavy field howitzer of 150 mm caliber, used from the 1930s and throughout the Second World War. It was the backbone of the artillery of German divisions and was used for fire at longer ranges against fortifications, positions and personnel. It was moved by towing, with a split trail on the carriage that raised stability when firing.
With a gun it pays to assemble and paint the carriage, the breech, the wheels and the trail separately; clean the grease off the metal barrel so that the paint will hold. Glue the plastic parts with thin modeling cement for plastic, and fill and sand the joints. Lay down a base coat (primer) before painting and spray the color (gray or the later dark yellow) with an airbrush in thin coats. Volume comes from emphasis on the edges, dark washes into the recesses and pigments for dust and mud effects on the carriage and the wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
