The thin etched sheet 1:35 Leaves no.4 is the fourth offering of leaf shapes the Italian maker Royal Model has prepared for scenery in 1:35 scale.

This is a metal semi-finished product: the outlines of leaves are etched into thin sheet, and the modeler pops them out and uses them as needed. The manufacturer gives the material as photo-etched metal. The numbering serves to distinguish the individual patterns, not to indicate the size of the package. The sheet is so thin that a leaf keeps a believable silhouette even when seen from the side.
A bare brass surface will not hold a coat, so begin with a thin primer. A lighter under-tone follows and only then the top shade. If you apply the last layer from above at an angle, the lighter paint keeps showing through in the lower part of the leaf and the surface stops looking flat. Suggest the patches of rust, yellowing and insect damage by stippling, never over the whole area.
A natural tree does not have identical leaves. Combine sizes from different sheets of the range, therefore, and leave some of the leaves lighter, as if they had grown on the sunlit side. For a late-summer scene it is enough to mix a little ocher into the green, and for an autumn scene reverse the procedure and add what is left of the green into the ocher. Do not forget that the lower levels of a crown tend to be darker and less colored, because the sun reaches them only now and then.
The package contains no paints, no putty and nothing to attach the leaves with.
