The fifth pattern in the etched leaf range, 1:35 Leaves no.5, completes the assortment of diorama vegetation from the Italian brand Royal Model.

The set closes the five numbered sheets the brand offers for this scale. The manufacturer describes it as worked in photo-etched metal; the outlines of the leaves are held in the sheet by thin tabs, which are cut through with photo-etch scissors or with a scalpel against a hard surface.
Leaves are most often attached to trees, yet it is the layer on the ground that gives away the season and the mood of a scene faster. Leaves scattered around a curb, blown into the corner of a yard or pressed into a rutted track do more for credibility than a perfect crown. Build the layer sparsely and let the ground show through between the leaves, otherwise the result looks like a carpet. Choose the color according to the surrounding terrain; leaves on a muddy road are always darker and less varied than those on a dry lawn.
Degrease the metal before applying the primer, so that the layer does not peel. Make any bends after painting carefully, because the coat cracks on an edge. For fixing scattered leaves to the terrain, thinned PVA glue with a drop of dish soap in it proves itself; it is applied with a dropper and dries invisible. Keep what is left of the sheet in a resealable bag, so that the small pieces do not run off around the workshop.
Obtain paints and the adhesive for attaching separately; they are not in the set.
