An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Sd.Kfz.222 light armored car (leichter Panzerspähwagen) in 1:35 scale from Hobby Boss. The set captures the characteristic open turret with a 2 cm rapid-fire gun and a coaxial machine gun and offers decals for several finish options.
The Sd.Kfz.222 belonged to the family of light four-wheel armored scout cars that Germany built from the middle of the 1930s. The rear-mounted Horch gasoline engine of around 90 horsepower gave it a road speed of about 80 km/h. The vehicle was used by the reconnaissance detachments of the armored divisions and proved itself in areas with a good road network. The open polygonal turret carried a 2 cm gun with a high elevation, suitable against low-flying targets as well.
The open turret and the interior of the hull are clearly visible, so paint and weather them before closing up. The wire anti-grenade screens above the turret come out best with careful painting. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic, prime the whole model and paint with an airbrush. Depending on the period of service choose a gray or a sand base, which you bring to life with a dark wash in the details, picked-out edges and dust effects with pigments on the wheels and the chassis.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
