This is a masking set, not a model of the aircraft. The masks are machine cut out of yellow kabuki paper, that is out of a thin paper carrier with a slightly yielding adhesive that follows curves well and leaves no residue on the glazing when it is peeled off. The set covers the F-82F, F-82G, F-82E and F-82H versions, which with a twin-fuselage aircraft is practical: the glazing here is doubled, so tape cut by hand would mean twice the work and twice the risk of an imprecise edge. The set is cut for one particular kit in 1:48 scale, so check the match with the kit you are building before buying. The masks are cut for the Modelsvit kit 4818/4820.
The F-82 Twin Mustang is an American long-range fighter aircraft with two fuselages joined by a common wing and horizontal tail. In its design it derives from the single-engine Mustang, but the pair of fuselages allowed a longer range and, in the night versions, the accommodation of a radar operator as well. The F-82E version served as an escort fighter, while the F-82F, F-82G and F-82H variants were equipped with radar in a pod under the center of the wing and were used as night fighter aircraft. It is precisely the presence or absence of the pod and small differences in the glazing that are the main distinguishing marks for a modeler.
First wash the glazing and let it dry, as grease from the fingers reduces the adhesion of the masks. Lift the masks out with tweezers and press them down with a wooden stick all the way round, especially in the corners of the frames. The recommended procedure is to spray the interior color, then the primer and finally the color of the airframe. Spray in thin coats, as a heavy coat has a tendency to run under the edge of a mask. Peel the masks off shortly after the paint has dried, with a pull at an angle to the surface and slowly.
The package contains masking material only. The model, paints and glue are not included.
