Injection-molded plastic set of Arado Ar 195 shipboard aircraft in 1:700 scale. The box holds twelve pieces of the same aircraft, two on each sprue, on six sprues in all. The set is not a stand-alone aircraft model in the usual sense: in this scale these are tiny accessories meant to fill the decks and hangars of ship models, above all aircraft carriers, or to serve as a squadron in a small diorama scene. Instructions are included, and the aircraft are finished by painting.
The Arado Ar 195 was a German carrier biplane designed in the second half of the 1930s as a torpedo and reconnaissance aircraft for the planned carrier Graf Zeppelin. The design drew on experience with Arado's earlier types and called for fixed landing gear, an airframe rugged enough to take deck landings and a mount for a torpedo. It lost the competition, however, and only a small series of prototypes was built; the type never reached production. That is precisely why it is relatively rare in the modeling market and makes an interesting addition for builders of German naval subjects.
Aircraft in 1:700 scale are extraordinarily small, so work with tweezers and a sharp scalpel, cut the parts from the sprue one at a time and keep a light-colored surface under your hands so that a lost piece can be found. The most convenient approach is to paint the whole sprue in the base color before cutting anything off, repaint the lower surfaces and only then separate the aircraft and clean them up. For the joints and for attaching them to a deck, cyanoacrylate in a minimal amount works well. In this scale, treat details such as national markings as a fine suggestion rather than an attempt at a faithful rendering: at viewing distance the silhouette and the contrast decide, not the microdetail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
