An injection-molded plastic set of the carrier version of the Junkers Ju 87 dive bomber in 1:700 scale. The package contains several examples of the same aircraft on shared sprues. This is not a stand-alone airplane model in the display sense — in this scale the little aircraft are meant to fill the decks and hangars of ship models, or to serve as an accessory for a small scene. Instructions are included, and finishing consists of cutting the parts off, cleaning them up and painting them.
The Ju 87C was the carrier adaptation of the well known German Junkers Ju 87 dive bomber, prepared for the planned aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin. It was based on the land-based B series and received the features needed for carrier operations: folding wings for stowage in the hangar, an arrestor hook for catching the wire on deck and jettisonable landing gear in case of an emergency landing on water. Because the ship was never completed, the carrier version never entered operational service and most of the machines built were converted back to the land-based standard. The characteristic feature of the type remains the cranked inverted gull wing and the fixed landing gear with its aerodynamic fairings.
Work with tweezers, a sharp scalpel and a light-colored cutting mat. The most convenient approach is to spray the whole sprue in the base color, pick out the undersurfaces and cut the aircraft off only at the end. To fix them to the deck, use a minimal amount of super glue applied with the tip of a toothpick. The cranked wing is the main recognition feature of the silhouette, so take care over its symmetry when cleaning up. Handle the camouflage by the contrast between the upper and lower surfaces — in this scale, trying for a faithful pattern is counterproductive. If you are placing the aircraft on a deck, do not set them out in a regular grid; irregular angles look more natural.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The glue, the paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
