Pre-cut self-adhesive masks in 1:72 scale for a model of the A5M4, that is the main production version of the type. According to the product name they are cut from yellow kabuki paper, which bends well into curves and leaves no adhesive on the finish when lifted. The set is cut for the kit by the same manufacturer, so the outlines match the shapes of the parts and do not have to be trimmed with a scalpel.
The Mitsubishi A5M4 was the most widespread variant of the A5M carrier fighter, to which the Allies gave the reporting name Claude. Against the early production batches it received a more powerful engine and a modified cockpit. Structurally it was an all-metal low-wing aircraft with fixed landing gear in aerodynamic spats, designed for low weight and agility rather than speed. In practice it was the direct predecessor of the later generation of carrier fighters with retractable landing gear.
Wash and degrease the glazing, because a mask will not hold on a greasy surface. Lift the parts off the sheet with tweezers or the point of a scalpel and check the position dry before pressing them down. Spray the paint thinly and perpendicular to the edge of the mask; a heavy application seeps under it more easily than several thinned coats. With the fixed landing gear and its spats, think through the painting sequence in advance, so that you can reach the masked areas with the nozzle. Take the mask off while the paint has only become tacky, and peel the edge off at an angle back over itself.
The package contains masks only. The kit, paints and glue are not included.
