This is a short-run kit: the parts on light green and gray plastic have thicker sprue gates and call for more careful cleaning up and dry-fitting. The package usually also holds a decal sheet. A gun plus a half-track is a rewarding subject for a small diorama.
The D-1 howitzer model 1943 was a Soviet heavy howitzer of 152 mm caliber that combined a powerful barrel with a lighter carriage and easy mobility. The ZIS-42 half-track came about by converting a truck to a half-track for better going across country, and it served as an artillery tractor. The pair reflects the practical solutions of the Soviet army in the later part of the war.
Finish and paint the tracks and the running gear of the half-track before closing the body. Fit the carriage and the barrel of the howitzer carefully, and glue the small parts with liquid cement for plastic. Soviet green comes out well after spraying with an airbrush, with the edges picked out by drybrushing, and weathering with mud and dust effects gives the scene realism.
