No. 313 (Czechoslovak) Squadron - Spitfires, a decal set (1:72, DK Decals)

A set of waterslide decals, not a model of an airplane. It contains markings and camouflage schemes for the Spitfires of No. 313 (Czechoslovak) Fighter Squadron, which served within the Royal Air Force (RAF) during the Second World War. The set is published by the Czech manufacturer DK Decals and offers several options for particular machines, so you can choose both the aircraft and its finish. The base kit has to be obtained separately.

The real subject

No. 313 Squadron was one of the Czechoslovak fighter squadrons formed in Great Britain from pilots who went on fighting in exile after their homeland was occupied. It flew Spitfires and took part in a number of operations over the English Channel. For Czech and Slovak modelers it is an attractive subject with a link to their own history.

How to apply the decals

• First give the area under the decal a coat of gloss varnish - on a matte surface silvery bubbles form beneath a decal.
• Cut the decal out, dip it in lukewarm water for a few seconds and let it release from the backing paper.
• Slide it into place, adjust the position with a damp brush and soak the excess water gently away.
• A decal softener will improve how it runs into the detail and how it clings; at the end fix everything with varnish.
