Pre-cut masks for a model of the OV-10 Bronco observation and light attack aircraft in 1:72 scale. The double-sided designation means that the set is laid out for both sides of the glazing: one part of the masks goes on the outside, the other inside. The frames can thus be sprayed with the airframe shade from outside and with the cockpit shade from inside, which pays off on the Bronco, because its glazed nose is exceptionally extensive and a great deal can be seen into it. It is neither a kit nor parts for a model but an aid for the painting stage.

The real subject

The OV-10 Bronco is a twin-boom aircraft with a high-mounted wing and a pair of turboprop engines, designed for reconnaissance, forward air control and light strikes in counterinsurgency operations. Characteristic is the short nacelle with extensive glazing that gives the crew a view in practically every direction. The OV-10A version was the basic production variant, while the OV-10D+ represents a later modernization intended mainly for night observation, with equipment in a lengthened nose.

Use and tips

First wash the clear part in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry. Lay the masks with tweezers and press the edges down so that paint does not creep under them. Stick the inner part of the masks on before you glue the glazing to the fuselage. Spray thin coats; a single heavy coat makes a step at the edge of the frame that stays visible after the mask is removed. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried and with a pull at a slight angle, not straight up.
