An injection-molded plastic kit of the German Pz.Kpfw. VII Löwe heavy tank in 1:72 scale from Armory. To the plastic sprues the manufacturer adds photo-etched parts, decals and building instructions. Because the real subject never got beyond the project stage, the model captures a design proposal rather than a series-produced vehicle.
The Löwe, also carried under the project designation VK 70.01, was a proposal for a German heavy tank from the turn of 1941 and 1942. It was to be an answer to the Soviet heavy types, and two weight versions were worked on: a lighter one with the turret closer to the center of the hull and a heavier, more thickly armored one. The main armament was to be a gun of 10.5 cm caliber. In 1942 the work ended, because the effort shifted to the even heavier Maus project, and no Löwe was ever built. It thus belongs among the so-called paper panzers, which reach collectors only as a model.
Check the parts first, remove the flash with a sharp scalpel and dry-fit the larger assemblies. Join the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene and the photo-etched parts with super glue. Apply a filler primer before painting and only then the camouflage. A period scheme is not fixed for a vehicle that was never built, so you can keep to the usual German shades of the second half of the war. Apply the weathering in this scale sparingly so that it does not overpower the engraved detail.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
