The small resin figure 1:72 Red Baron - Manfred von Richthofen from Royal Model will complete models of First World War aircraft in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
Manfred von Richthofen remains the best-known fighter pilot of the First World War. This small figure of a pilot in flying kit from Royal Model brings him among models in 1:72 scale as a resin casting to be assembled and painted.
He served first with the cavalry, then with reconnaissance aircraft, and only then reached fighters. He commanded the Jasta 11 unit and later a wing that was called the flying circus for the varied colors of its machines and its frequent moves. He had his own aircraft painted a deep red, and it was from them that he got his nickname. He had eighty confirmed victories, which made him the most successful pilot of the whole war. He was killed on 21 April 1918 during a low-level flight over the Somme valley, hit by a single round whose origin is disputed to this day.
In 1:72 scale it is the silhouette that counts, not the detail. Spike the figure on a wooden stick while painting, as it is otherwise hard to handle. Three shades on the flying kit, a dark shadow into the folds and a lighter tint on the high points will do. The helmet and gloves can stay dark, while the face should be lightened so that it does not get lost. A matte varnish at the end unifies the surface.
