Flexible sanding pads with a very fine grit of 1200. Unlike ordinary abrasive paper they have a flexible layer, thanks to which they follow the shape of a part and do not sand only the raised edges. The 1200 grit is a finishing one: it does not suit removing material, but smoothing a surface to the state where paint will not pick out scratches on it.
Sand wet, that is, with the pad soaked in water with a drop of detergent. The water washes away the material sanded off, which would otherwise scratch the surface, and the pad lasts considerably longer. Proceed from a coarser grit to a finer one and at each step sand at right angles to the marks of the previous one, so that you can see when they have been removed. On thin edges press as little as possible, as material is lost there fastest. After sanding, rinse the surface and let it dry thoroughly.
