A photo-etched detail set aimed at the landing gear of a model of the American Douglas A-26C Invader attack aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for a plastic kit. Sets of this kind usually bring the fine flat parts a plastic molding cannot capture — doors, stiffeners, clips and bay walls. The exact contents of the package are not stated here.
The Douglas A-26 Invader was a twin-engined attack aircraft with a crew of three and retractable nosewheel landing gear. The main legs retracted into the engine nacelles and the nose leg into the fuselage. The A-26C version had a glazed nose with a bombardier's station. On a model in 1:32 scale the landing gear bays are large and clearly visible from below, so flat plastic detail in them looks empty, and fine metal improves it more than any other accessory.
Separate the parts from the fret with a scalpel on a hard surface, not by twisting. Make the bends in a bender, so that the edges are straight. Degrease the metal and cover it with a primer, or the paint will peel off during handling. They are glued with cyanoacrylate applied in tiny drops, and with slow-setting epoxy on larger surfaces. It is practical to paint and shade the bays before the landing gear legs are seated; a dark wash into the corners and gentle drybrushing along the edges will add depth and emphasize the structure.
