ACRYLIC WASH - Interiors Wash (15 ml, AMMO of Mig Jimenez)

A wash ready to use, formulated for the insides of models: pilot and driver compartments, the fighting compartments of armored vehicles, engine bays, cargo holds. It comes in a 15 ml bottle with a dropper cap. It is not a kit or an opaque paint - it is modeling chemistry for picking out detail.

Why an interior needs a wash of its own

An interior is, paradoxically, the least visible and at the same time the most crowded part of a model. It is dark, cramped and packed with detail - instrument panels, levers, valves, rivets, welds, lines, corners and recesses. Without a wash it all merges into one flat color and hours of work on the detail disappear. A wash flows into the recesses and draws out the outline of every instrument, every lever and every corner, so that the interior suddenly gains depth and legibility even in the dim light inside a fuselage.

An essential tip: timing

The interior is done before you close up the fuselage or the hull. Once the halves are glued together, most of the detail is beyond the reach of a brush. The complete procedure is: build the interior, spray it, weather it with a wash, let it dry out - and only then close it up. It is also worth remembering that once it is closed you will see only part of the work, so put your effort into what will be visible through the canopy or a hatch.

An acrylic wash - what that means in practice

Unlike most washes on the market, which are enamel and are wiped off with mineral spirits, this one is acrylic and is washed off with water (or with the manufacturer's acrylic thinner). That is why it has no smell and is gentler - in a closed room indoors that shows. Two rules hold relentlessly, though: once dry, an acrylic wash is harder to wipe off than an enamel one, so remove the excess in time; and it must not be applied over an uncured acrylic coat, because it would dissolve it. Let the paint cure and overcoat it with gloss varnish - the wash then flows exactly where it should.

Use step by step

• Shake the bottle properly before use.
• Apply with a brush into corners, around instruments, levers and rivets.
• Let it work for a moment - the wash flows into the recesses on its own.
• Wipe the excess off flat areas with a damp brush or a cloth.
• Work in layers and build the depth of the shadow up gradually.
