Three shades of British factory camouflage, in which the aircraft of neutral Portugal served.
Responsibility details are not available.
Portugal stayed neutral during the Second World War, but its air force flew mostly on equipment of British origin. Gladiators, Blenheims, Curtiss machines and Bell P-39 Airacobras arrived straight in Royal Air Force camouflage and stayed in it, only with different national markings. That is why the package contains three classic British shades.
They are a dark green, a dark earth brown and a light undersurface tone. The pair of upper colors forms the irregular pattern on the spine and on the upper side of the flying surfaces, and the light tone covers the underside. The same three shades also serve for the machines of the 1940s and 1950s, when British coloring lasted longer with Portuguese units than it did in the British Isles.
The set thus opens up a coherent subject that modeling has hardly explored. Anyone building the air forces of neutral states, or looking for unusual markings for a commonly available kit, will find a basis here to which only suitable decals need to be added.
Inside are three 10 ml bottles of acrylic paint from a line focused on period-accurate shades. They dry matte and take thinning with water. Before decals are applied it is a good idea to coat the surface with gloss varnish so that the edge of the carrier film does not remain visible.
An interesting detail is the markings. A neutral state needed to be distinguishable at first sight from the warring parties, so conspicuous stripes and a cross in the national colors appeared on the fuselages and the flying surfaces. Against a green and brown base they read very strongly and turn a commonly available kit into a model you will not often meet on the display table.
