A loose pigment colorant from the Aging Enamel Powder range of the U-STAR brand. The powder settles on the surface of a finished model and changes its character without covering it the way a paint does. The name of the shade is given in the name of the product. The texture of the surface decides
A pigment behaves differently on a smooth area and on a surface with texture. Tarpaulins, covers, straps, cast details or the terrain of a diorama have a fine relief in which the powder catches by itself and with no great effort. All you have to do is apply it to the area with a soft brush and spread it lightly; the material settles in the recesses on its own and brings out the fabric or the cast texture. On smooth plastic, by contrast, the pigment has to be worked into the area, otherwise it slips off easily.
That is exactly why it pays to think through the order of work on each model. Weather the textured parts before the smooth painted areas. Powder that falls off them during work would otherwise have to be removed from the smooth areas again, and with lighter shades that is harder than with dark ones.
For builders of dioramas, military vehicles and all models where a broken surface appears alongside smooth paintwork. There the pigment does work that a brush with paint would manage only with difficulty.
A loose powder: do not inhale it, work over a surface and out of a draft, and wash your hands after work. Keep out of the reach of children.
