AIR CONDITIONING 30-35MM SCALE

Air conditioning units, size 30-35 mm (AK interactive)

A set of scenic accessories for dioramas and gaming tables. It is not a model kit nor parts for one; these are features of the setting in their own right, which are placed around figures and vehicles and turn a scene into a particular place. The size matches figures roughly 30 to 35 millimeters tall, which is the usual standard of tabletop games and of modern urban dioramas.

Why air conditioning of all things

Outdoor air conditioning units are a detail nobody notices in a real city, but in a scene they are missed at once. On a bare facade a model building looks like a backdrop; as soon as units, ducting and clutter hang on it, the building starts to look lived in. At the same time it is a rewarding object for weathering, because rust, water traces and dust read very well on it.

Use in a scene

• fitting out the facades of buildings in a modern urban scene
• filling frontages and yards where an empty area would otherwise remain
• cover and reference points on a gaming table
• a source of small detail for photographing dioramas close up

Tips for placing and painting

If you paint the accessories, it pays to keep them a shade darker than the facade, so that they stand off from it. Rust traces running down under a unit and a darker water stain on the plaster will do more for conviction than the most careful paint on the body itself. Try the placement dry first and think about the main direction of view into the scene.

Who the set is for

• for builders of modern urban dioramas
• for tabletop gamers who build their own terrain
• for modelers completing the setting around figures of 30 to 35 mm

Figures, buildings, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
