AK Synthetic Brush — Flat 1 (Flat Synthetic Brush, AK Interactive)

A flat brush with an evenly trimmed bundle of synthetic fibers from manufacturer AK Interactive. It is not a kit or a model, but a modeling tool — an aid for applying paint. The flat shape holds paint in an even layer and, when drawn, leaves a continuous band the width of the bundle, so it suits different work than a round brush: while a round brush tapers to a point and is a tool for detail, a flat brush is a tool for areas and edges. Size 1 is among the smaller flat brushes, so it handles partial surfaces, panels, and smaller sections well, where a wide brush would already take control of the stroke.

Use

• Base coats on small and medium areas — a fuselage, hull, wings, a car body, bases, and diorama foundations.
• Straight, sharply bounded edges and transitions — the edge of the bundle works as a natural ruler.
• Applying varnishes, matte and gloss topcoats, and bases before decals.
• Spreading and blending washes and filters over an area, and dry-brushing on edges and raised details.
• Working with both acrylic and enamel paints — synthetic fibers tolerate common thinners well.

Care of the brush

• Clean the brush right after painting — dried paint at the ferrule permanently splays the bundle.
• Always clean in the direction of the fibers, never pull or rub the brush against the grain.
• Do not press down on the brush or use it to stir paint in a jar — this deforms the bundle.
• After cleaning, reshape the fibers back to their original form and let them air dry.
• Store tip (bundle) up in a holder, never resting the bundle on the bottom of a container.
