The eleventh volume of the AMMO WARGAMING UNIVERSE guide line by AMMO of Mig Jimenez. It is a publication, not a kit and not a set of materials: you get the book on its own, and you buy the plaster, pigments and paints separately. The line aims at wargaming, that is, at modelers who, besides figures, also build game terrain and bases.

What the volume deals with

The subject is making your own rocks and stone formations - from the rough shape through the surface texture to the color result. A rock is a rewarding focal point for a scene, but it also gives away cutting corners most easily: stone has a direction of layering, sharp fractures and faces that weather differently, and irregularity can only be made on purpose. In color, the rule is that gray must be broken into warm and cool tones, or it looks like concrete. Unlike the other volumes of the line, which each take one type of landscape, this volume keeps to a single building element usable anywhere.

How to work with the guide

• Make a small sample first. The texture of stone is tuned by repetition, not by the first attempt.
• Keep one logic of layering across the whole scene, so that the rocks look like one geological whole.
• The procedures carry over to game terrain, a diorama, figure bases and a model railroad.
• The text is in a foreign language, so look for the main guidance in the picture section.
