ANTI-SLIP PASTE - SAND COLOR FOR 1/35 20ml

Anti-Slip Paste in a Sand Color, 20 ml, AMMO of Mig Jimenez

This is neither a paint nor a wash but a thick acrylic-based texturing compound. It serves to imitate the non-slip surface that real vehicles have on their walkways, fenders and hull roof plates. The grain is chosen for 1:35 scale and the shade matches sand, so the compound also forms a base for the painting that follows. The package holds 20 ml.

Use

• Stir the pot thoroughly before working, as the thick component settles to the bottom.
• Apply it to degreased and dry plastic with a brush, a spatula or a piece of foam.
• Shape the layer and level the edges while the compound is still wet; once it is dry it can only be reworked by sanding.
• Let it dry thoroughly, then spray the area with paint and weather it with washes and pigments.
• Clean the tools right after working, as dried compound will never come out of a brush.

For modelers of modern as well as Second World War vehicles who want to bring the armor surface to life with a relief instead of mere paint. It also comes in useful when building dioramas, where the same compound can suggest the rough structure of concrete or plaster. It is suitable for 1:35 scale; in smaller scales the grain tends to be too coarse.

What to watch out for

Non-slip surfaces are not all over a real vehicle but only where people walk or where the crew needs a firm footing. Plan them out beforehand and mask off the surroundings with tape, because once it is dry a sharp boundary is hard to make. The layer should be thin, as a heavy application rounds off the edges and looks unconvincing in scale.

Keep out of the reach of children, ventilate while working and avoid contact with the eyes. Close the pot carefully after use so that the compound does not dry out.
