Abteilung 502 Ashes White — a modeling pigment

A dry, loose modeling pigment from Abteilung 502 in the shade Ashes White, that is, an off-white gray ashy tone. It is a fine weathering powder, not a liquid paint: it is applied dry and serves for weathering, that is, for adding realistic dirt and wear to a model that is already painted. Ashes White is the lightest tone in the pigment line and imitates ash, burnt remains, lime efflorescence, salt deposits and light faded dust. It is supplied in a jar (usually 20 ml of loose powder).

Use

• Pick the pigment up with a soft brush and rub it in dry wherever you want an ashy or faded cast.
• To anchor it permanently, seal the pigment with a pigment fixer or with odorless mineral spirits; after sealing, the shade darkens slightly and goes flatter.
• Layer it and combine it with darker pigments (dust, rust, earth) for a three-dimensional, multi-tone effect.
• Dust any excess loose powder off lightly before sealing, so that you keep the effect under control.

Who the pigment is for

For modelers of armored vehicles, aircraft, dioramas and figures who want to render ash, burnt ground, faded dust or lime deposits. The light tone also suits brightening and dusting darker surfaces.

The pigment is a fine loose powder: do not inhale it, work in a draft-free area and with respiratory protection. Fixers are flammable, so use them in a ventilated space. Keep out of the reach of children.
