ATOM RAF Coastal Command Set is a set of AMMO acrylic paints aimed at the aircraft of the British Coastal Command during the Second World War.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of four acrylic paints of the ATOM line that the manufacturer put together for the finishes of British Coastal Command aircraft. It combines the blue-gray tone of the upper surfaces, a supplementary gray, a light underside and a greenish shade, so that you can get through a typical maritime patrol scheme with it without buying further bottles.
Coastal Command was a part of the Royal Air Force whose task was patrolling over the sea, escorting convoys, anti-submarine warfare and attacks on shipping targets. Among the types that flew with it were the Bristol Beaufighter, the Vickers Wellington and the Fairey Swordfish. The finishes of these machines differed from those of fighters over land precisely because they were camouflaged against the sea surface and the clouds, not against fields and forest.
On these types the boundary between the upper camouflage and the light underside is mostly not sharp. Spray freehand, therefore, at lower pressure and take the transition through in several light passes. Salt and damp took their toll, so it is worth fading the upper surfaces slightly and adding wear on the leading edges. Thin the paints with water or with the brand's thinner, and before decals prepare a smooth gloss surface.
