A metal coil from AK Interactive in black with an outer diameter of 3 mm. It is not a kit and not a part of a particular model: it is material from which you make your own runs, hoses and springs exactly where you need them. Against the heavier four-millimeter version this one is finer, so it is easier to lead around details and does not look oversized even on smaller models.
Cut the coil with flush cutters and level the end with a file, as an uneven cut leaves the last turn standing out. If you want to lead it in a curve, run a wire of matching thickness through it; the wire holds the shape, while the coil on its own straightens out. It is bonded with super glue, always in spots; excess glue runs into the winding and the fine texture disappears. The black finish usually does not need painting over, which is an advantage with a coil this fine, because every layer of paint here fills the gaps between the turns. Where the shade has to be matched to the rest of the model, a light pigment or a pass with graphite is enough.
For detailers who finish equipment beyond the contents of the box and for diorama builders who are short of a fine flexible element. The work is simple but calls for tweezers and a steady pace.
