The black finish is practical wherever a line is meant to read as a rubber hose or a fabric braid and where a silver sheen would have to be painted over anyway. That saves one step and the paint does not clog the fine winding.

Cut the coil with side cutters and level the end with a file, otherwise the first turn will lift.
