This pine is a finished tree, not a kit or a loose material. The Czech manufacturer Model Scene makes it by hand, so every piece has a crown shape and a branching of its own; two trees side by side do not look like copies, which in a model landscape is essential. The height ranges roughly between 230 and 260 mm, and the small variation follows from the hand production.
The pine has a characteristic look: a high-set, irregular and rather open crown, a bare trunk in its lower part and darker needles in clusters at the ends of the branches. That is exactly why it suits scenes where a tree is to create a vertical accent without hiding the whole area: under a pine there is room left for figures, vehicles and buildings. The stated height corresponds in 1:35 scale to a tree about nine meters tall, and in smaller scales such as 1:72 or 1:87 to a full-grown forest giant.
The tree is stood in a pre-drilled hole in the baseboard and secured with glue or filler. Mask the transition of the trunk into the terrain with growth, turf tufts, fallen leaves or needles; nothing gives a model tree away faster than a cleanly cut trunk rising out of a bare area. On taller trees it pays to allow for the center of gravity and to fix the base properly, especially if the scene is going to be carried around. The needles can be gently toned if need be, but in most cases that is not necessary.
This is a finished scenic tree, not a kit. A baseboard, glue and other terrain materials are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
